Local USO Gathering at Freebirds to Help Those in Fort Hood

The local chapter of the USO teamed up with Freebirds Monday in an effort to help out the troops stationed at Ford Hood.

Tables were set up outside of the Freebirds at the 5400 block of SPID, where USO supporters raised awareness about the fundraising event. For every burrito that was sold Monday, Freebirds donated 50-cents to the nonprofit organization.

"The USO is there to make them feel that they are not far away from home. Like their moms and dads are still there," veteran Heather Blankenship said. "So it's important to back the USO and donate and volunteer."

The USO table will be set up at the restaurant until 7 p.m. Monday.
