Local Woman Guilty of Intoxication Manslaughter Assault

After three days of testimony, it took a jury only an hour and half to decide the fate of a Corpus Christi woman charged with intoxication manslaughter assault.

Devry Resendez, 24, was found guilty.

It was last September when Resendez hit a car on SPID, killing 70-year old Carmen Cantu. Cantu's 25-year old niece was getting out of the car to help her aunt when a third car hit them.

The impact propelled the elderly woman through the back window and onto the pavement.

Police said Resendez then ran from the scene, but did not make it very far.

The punishment phase wrapped up for the evening and will continue on Monday. Resendez could be sentenced to more than 30 years in prison.
