It's the kind of story that you might think only happens elsewhere. A female dance instructor at a Corpus Christi Catholic school stands accused of having sex with a 13 year old male student, but possibly more shocking, is that the Nueces County District Attorney's Office believes the victim might have fathered the suspect's child.
41 year old Sandra Borrego has been arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child. She was a dance Instructor at Most Precious Blood on Saratoga. She's posted bond and is no longer at the Nueces County Jail.
Corpus Christi Police say she's not employed by the Catholic Diocese or at Most Precious Blood, instead she's an independent dance instructor, much like a volunteer for the school.
The alleged sexual encounter happened 10 months ago, but was just reported to authorities a few weeks ago. The boy is now 14 and possible a father.
"We are investigating that possibility," says District Attorney Carlos Valdez. " And, the only way to do that is through DNA evidence." He told three news today, his office is in the process of trying to obtain a warrant to draw blood from the suspect.
Valdez says this is an unusual type of case because typically the man is the perpetrator, the young female the victim. "I've noticed whenever we have a case like this, anywhere in the country, it creates quite a bit of news because it doesn't happen very often."
Here is the complete statement furnished by the Corpus Christi Catholic Diocese regarding the arrest:
"The schools of the Diocese of Corpus Christi are always concerned about the protection of children. Diocesan officials have been made aware of allegations made against a lay individual who, in the past, has utilized facilities on Diocesan property. We immediately reported these allegations to law enforcement. Law enforcement has requested that we allow them the opportunity to complete their investigation without interference to protect the alleged victim, as well as the alleged suspect. We respect that request." --Marty Wind
