Some top scientists and doctors from around the world have gathered here in Corpus Christi this week to look at a whole new kind of treatment for illnesses and injuries. A non-surgical alternative to what is typically done now.

Nearly 75 experts in something called, plasma medicine, say it won't be long now before patients suffering from diseases or trauma will be treated with an electrically-charged probe, instead of a scalpel and drugs.

We're told business people here in Corpus Christi could lead the way in marketing the specialized equipment. Jeff Soward is the Operations Manager for International Center, "We're going to roll out new technologies here in Corpus Christi, we're going do the R&D, the final R&D, the patenting and the commercialization of several important technologies that we think can technically change the world as we know it."

At least one medical expert likens the treatment to the way it was done on "Star Trek." Plans call for this new treatment to be introduced at some hospitals as early as next year.
