Scheme of the week:  "You Have Won a Prize" Scheme

Q -  Often we have seminar promoters come through town. What should people watch for?

A- . People should realize that these companies make money by selling you materials, kits, etc. The seminar may be promoted as being free but the content of the "free" educational seminar will be geared toward getting you to invest a good deal of money with the seminar company. There will be a lot of hype and charismatic speaking. So check these companies out. Google them. Find out what former participants have to say. Check out the company with the BBB.

Q -  What's our scheme of the week?

A-  . Callers to our office have reported receiving a prize notification from AVC Claims Center of Arlington. AVC claims you have won one of four prizes: a Mercedes Benz, $40,000 cash, a $1,500 shopping spree, or an exotic island adventure. This does not mean that you really have won a contest. What it means is that you will receive a free gift if you attend a resort sales presentation, but the chances that you will receive a major prize such as a car or cash are very slim. Most consumers receive the ten one-day holiday package, which allows use of resort facilities during the daytime only.  The BBB recommends that you participate only if you are interested in the resort itself. AVC is a DBA for Silverleaf Resorts.
