Imagine waking up to the sound of nearly 100 gun-shots fired just a few feet from your home. That's what happened along a stretch of Brawner Parkway between Carroll Lane and Kostoryz. There is some indication tonight that the suspect may have fired all these shots, while standing in the middle of the street and later took off on foot.
Police know of at least four vehicles damaged by bullets along with one house. The shooting was enough to wake up neighbors. We spoke to some today who recall seeing a black escalade speeding away from the area. Others saw someone dressed in all black running away.
"Too scary! Way too close to home," said a Brawny Parkway neighbor.
Brawner Parkway neighbors are used to hearing passing cars, but not gunshots.
"I got up when I heard the shots, and I just froze, and I said those are gun shots?" said Esteban Balboa, a resident in the neighborhood.
"To me it sounded like a war zone, well let me just say when I got out of bed, I went on the floor and called police because we didn't know where it was coming from," said Rachel Wilken, a neighbor.
The shots came from someone shooting from the street along the 3300 block of Brawner Parkway. 98 casings. Even a discarded handgun clip littered the street and police believe an assault rifle and handgun were used in the shooting.
Fortunately, no one was injured, just a lot of property damage, you can see a lot of the broken glass in the driveways, according to police on the scene this is a scene that stretches quite a ways about 500 feet.
"A good 500 foot span, the projectiles were found, and we may have additional damage property down the road," said Senior Officer Bernie Rodriguez with the Corpus Christi Police Department.
" I turned on the light and turned it back on, and well they still kept on shooting," said Annie Garcia. Her son's car was hit by gunfire. "I said well, maybe just stay inside. KATY ASKS: Any idea why anybody would want to do this? ANNIE: No, I don't. KATY ASKS: You're hoping that they catch them? .ANNIE: Heck yes.not the kind of neighborhood where we're used to hearing gunshots."
"I saw somebody, I don't know if it was a kid, all I know is that someone was running from here," said Balboa. "I'm going to call police right now and tell them someone was leaving this area, right after the shots."
Police tell us they don't have any suspect information or motive at this time.
