The parents of the Corpus Christi soldier wounded in Iraq are on their way to Walter Reed hospital to see their son for the first time since he was injured.
3 news caught up with the couple at the airport this afternoon just before they boarded a plane.
Their son, 19 year old Jeffrey Rosas is in stable condition tonight.
His family says he is breathing on his own and has made a complete turn around.
The Carroll High school graduate was critically wounded, shot in the chest during a training exercise near Baghdad last week.
The family says support and prayers have been flowing in non stop.
Jeffrey's mom says "thank God the prayers have been answered from all the community everywhere, i'm just so excited."
"We're fortunate to have him as our son we just want all the public to know military people sacrifice quite a bit, we went through torture with what has happened to us, I just want the public to be aware a lot of families are going through this type of problem" says Orlando Rosas, Jeffrey's dad.
The rosas family has packed plenty of "get well" cards and letters from students at carol high school to take to jeffrey.
The family expects to arrive in Washinton D.C. by midnight tonight where they will stay for at least 2 weeks.
