They're calling it the Seaweed Shark and it's supposed to be the ultimate solution to the seaweed problem on our beaches.
The machine was unveiled during a symposium on the Island.
The company behind this massive machine says it's designed to remove the seaweed and turn it into other useful forms, such as fertilizer.
John Torrey with Captain Hook Dumpsters explains how it works..
"What we have here the idea is to run down the beach, this approaches the seaweed, the paddle will turn and collect the seaweed and collects the seaweed kicks it onto the converter belt, the belt shoots to the back that will load a dump truck and should move between 10-20 cubic yards per minute."
The company says its still working out the bugs.
We're told seaweed is rich in nutrients and could help increase crop yield by 20 percent.

Dude, this is amazing and I love that Torrey is recycling the seaweed. It cleans up the beaches and fertilizes crop? Way to go Mr. Torrey. We need more great thinkers like this.

There's more talk about closing some of Padre Island beach to traffic. Will you support a move to close traffic along the beach at the seawall on Padre Island?

  • Yes. I will support the closure.
