Sergeant First Class Walter Laird, just home from Iraq on a 30 leave, surprised his 7 year old daughter today at Wilson Elementary where she is a student.

There were lots of smiles and some tears as the father and daughter reunited after more than a 15 month separation.

Laid is a combat medic in Iraq and will be returning after his leave. But in the meantime he plans to spend as much time with his family and do a lot of bike riding with his daughter Alissa.

Walter is my nephew and the family is so thankful he has returned unharmed and healthy. Our country is fortunate to have so many soldiers like him willing to give up so much for us. He has been sent overseas 4 times in the past 10 years. We look forward to the day he will be able to stay home.
