Experts say tomatoes linked to a salmonella Outbreak in Texas and New Mexico were not grown in Texas. Agriculture officials today report Texas was one of 12 states or countries eliminated by the Federal Food and Drug Administration as a possible source of the tainted tomatoes.  More than 50 people in Texas and New Mexico have become ill since the outbreak started in April. The source of the outbreak is sought. In the meantime, health officials are advising that people not eat any raw Roma or full-sized round tomatoes, other than those sold attached to the vine or grown at home. Most people infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever and Abdominal cramps within 12 to 72 hours. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.
