$2,000 donation going toward bulletproof vests for deputies

Kaelin said with this donation, he will be able to get four bulletproof vests for his troopers. He said he is still hoping to get about 12 more for his staff.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A donation was made Tuesday to help Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin's campaign to get more bulletproof vests for deputies.

$2,000 was presented to the Sheriff's Department courtesy of the Nueces County Republican Ladies group leaders Debbie Farenthold and Rebecca Bradford, as well as County Commissioners Brent Chesney and Mike Pusley.

The group is hoping to spark a flood of donations for the cause.

"As Commissioner Chesney said, we're offering this as kind of challenge to people in Nueces County," Pusley said. "If you want to help out county law enforcement and make a donation that will go toward buying a protective vest, that will help save the life or potentially save the life of somebody who is out there doing their job helping protect you, than this is a very worthwhile contribution."

Kaelin said with this donation, he will be able to get four bulletproof vests for his troopers. He said he is still hoping to get about 12 more for his staff.
