CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The 2018 Great Texas Warrant Roundup has begun and city leaders, sheriff's deputies and police are asking you to head to the Municipal Court to clear up any outstanding tickets.
The two-week amnesty program works to resolve more than 43,000 active arrest warrants. Municipal Court Clerk Gilbert Hernandez says you can arrive at the court without fear of being arrested.
During the two-week roundup, from Feb. 12-23, the court will have extended hours. They will be open until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"The 2018 Great Texas Warrant Roundup is an event where jurisdictions throughout the state come together, partner up to round up citizens and individuals that have Class A misdemeanor in warrant or delinquent status, and bring them into compliance with court orders," Municipal Court Clerk Gilbert Hernandez said.
Hernandez said the more than 43,000 active warrants date back to 2000, but the court was able to clear almost 18,000 warrants by September of last year.
