Its a mistake that may have cost an infant's life. Christus Spohn Hospital has spoken about the medical mistake they made over the weekend. 17 pre-mature babies were given an overdose of the blood-thinning drug, Heparin. It was discovered Sunday night at Christus Spohn South.
Hospital administrators apologizing during a press conference at Christus Spohn South. Dr. Richard Davis, Chief Medical Officer saying, "Our deepest sympathy goes out to this family."
17 infants possibly exposed to higher than normal doses of Heparin. The mistake went unnoticed for 2 days. From Friday until Sunday night, the infants were given possibly 100 times more than the recommended dose. Hospital officials say the mistake happened within the hospital's pharmacy. The hospital is conducting its own investigation. However 3 outside agencies, including The Joint Commission and Accreditation on Health care are looking into the mix up.
3 News has confirmed that at least one parent of an infant who may have received the Heparin overdose has requested their child be moved to another hospital. One remains in critical condition. 12 others remain in the NICU and are stable.

Incredibly, some parents are leaving their children there! I would've taken my infant out of that hospital immediately! Mistakes of that magnitude can happen again, especially if the staff is under stress from this recent incident. I don't care how nice the PICU nurses are...they don't want to be sued or fired. Get your babies out of there!!
