The attorney representing an Alice family says now another premature baby born at Spohn South has died. The babies that died are twins, a brother and sister. Their parents, Eric and Erica Garcia of Alice have retained a Corpus Christi attorney Bob Patterson.

He says he has filed a temporary restraining order against Spohn asking that any evidence be preserved.  The hospital has admitted that 17 premature infants were mistakenly given adult doses of Heparin, a drug commonly used in the administration of IV fluids.

Spohn officials says they are investigating the mistake and say that so far they have uncovered no evidence that Heparin was a cause of the deaths of the baby twins. They were born one month prematurely.

The Heparin medication was mixed at the hospital's lab.  Two pharmacy employees have asked for personal leave.

Listen to this live interview of Mr. Patterson by Kiii News reporter Erik Rosales conducted during the 6PM newscast today.

I just saw that the grandparents said the 'babies were healthy when they were transfered' and sorry but babies are not transfered if they healthy. Suing won't 'prevent this from happening' - humans make errors. I am sorry for this family's loss but the babies were not transfered 'healthy' and heparin overdose would have causes very obvious symptoms if it lead to their deaths.

While I am not an advocate of teen pregnancy, I thought the reference to the parents' ages in this story was not applicable. It has no bearing on the issue and was information that was unnecessarily released. Any death of a child is a concern regardless of the parent's age. While I hope there was not actual fault or negligence on the part of the hospital, I do hope these parents will find the cause of death for their children. I pray for their comfort.
