(Corpus Christi, July 10, 2008) Hector and Maggie Chappa, the grandparents of the infants who died after given a overdose of the blood thinning drug, Heparin, want answers.

Chappa says the family was never notified about the heparin overdose. They found out at the same time the media did, during a news conference, put on by Christus Spohn Health System executives.

Christus Spohn's official position now is that they do not believe the heparin was a factor in the children's deaths.

Chappa says the family's main concern is for his 17 year old daughter Erica and 18 year old son in law, Eric.

These 17 infants are in addition to the 8 other infants that have been affected by Heparin administration. This isn't about money, it's about ensuring that hospitals & providers are doing the right thing. Until the final investigation comes out, we won't know for sure what happened in the pharmacy that day, but we do know that it isn't the first time & until adherence to mandated safety regulations are put in place it won't be the last. Heparin is just the tip of the huge iceberg!

For one, the mother is super young which is a factor for the children to be more susceptible to illness of some sort. second of all, they are twins, who always seem to have more problems than a single child born. yes, the parents should have been told about the mistake, but it seems like they are trying to get money out of this whole issue. if they werent killed due to the overdose they should just get off the case

We are missing the point here people. Yes, the twins may have been so sick admittance to NICU was a necessity - BUT - That does not make the fact that they were overdosed 100X on Heparin okay - even though it was not what supposedly contributed to their deaths. Those who are responsible for the medication error should be held accountable for their mistakes so something like this does not happen again. Lets think about further educating them on avoiding errors and not solely on punishment

The news is failing to mention that the mom of these twins was septic and was in the hospital for 6-7days after the delivery of these twins. Yes there was an overdose of Heparin but it was not the cause of death. Leave the nurses out of this. They did there job by catching a medical mistake that they were not responsible for. I feel for the parents, having a child in the NICU myself they brought him back to me when I thought he might not make it. By the way he was not a Premie and I was healthy.

The parents were told about this before the media found out. I know this for a fact. So all the outsiders in this situation need to stop assuming and writing false information! Im wondering why the news is not making a big deal that the doctors already confirmed that the death was not related to the heparin!

You know Heparin overdose didn't push these fragile babies over the edge? Regardless, does that make ok that they were 1000% overdosed? Normal more healthy babies are right now in critical condition. And, btw, ICU is standard practice for Premies. 4 weeks premature is common, and is usually survived w/o complications. If this caused a bad situation to get worse, someone needs to answer for it. In Texas, Prop 12, blocks justice from happening though. Logan's Voice Crocswithsocsrocs.com

That is absolutely revolting to know that those babies died with a little "help" from the hospital and to be honest I will never, ever consider delivering any of my next children there. The family heard about the overdose the same time everyone else did? That saddens my heart that such a huge mistake was made, and no one stepped up and took responsibility for it. Those babies might have been sick to begin with, but add 100x heparin to that... I would be absolutely furious.

IF THESE BABIES HAD BEEN WELL THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN NICU. MY CHILDREN WERE SIX WEEKS EARLY AND NEVER WERE PUT IN TO AN ICU. I UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ARE FEELING BUT THESE CHILDREN WERE BOTH QUITE ILL WHEN THEY WENT INTO THE HOSPITAL AND NOW IS NOT A TIME FOR FINGER POINTING, LET THESE CHILDREN REST IN PEACE. MAY THE FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT THEY ARE NOT SUFFERING AS THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THEY HAD LIVED WITH THE COMPLICATIONS OF PREMATURITY AND ILLNESS, HEPARINE WAS NOT THE PROB
