"Its real simple. Somebody out there knows something about what happened."
That, a plea for information from Mike Hummel, a friend of local attorney Tom Hermansen. Police asking for help in solving what's now being called a random act of violence
"We believe at this time there are a small number of people who have information related to this crime," said Corpus Christi Police Chief Bryan Smith.
Attorney Tom Hermansen was riding his bike along Ennis Joslin in the early morning hours on June 5th when a single shot ran out, striking him in the back. Hermansen had to undergo extensive surgery at Christus Spohn Memorial and is preparing for another round of surgery this week.
During this latest press conference, new information about the weapon used in the shooting was released by Police Chief Bryan Smith. "We believe it was a handgun that was used, firing a round such as this, rat shot or snake shot."
The pellets, about 130 in one shot, are smaller than a penny. Police say they're possibly from a revolver, perhaps a .357 or .38 Caliber hand gun.
"Its not uncommon for something like this to go unsolved for some time I think the idea, " said Smith.
Reward money continues to pile up. It's now at $51,000 for any one with information leading to the arrest and indictment of those responsible.
"The criminals that committed this crime may not be your typical criminals maybe the people next door who had maybe too much to drink or smoke that night and did something stupid."
If you know anything about the shooting you're asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-TIPS.
