There's a specialty yarn and fiber store here in Corpus Christi, that's doing incredible things for others. It's the type of kindness that's being generated with a simple pair of knitting needles.
At the shop, Knotty Girl Yarns on south Staples, you'll find the brightest to the softest of colors.
As hands practice the art of knitting and the art of giving.
"Knitters don't knit because we have to have a new sweater," said Ann Leslie the owner of the specialty knit shop.
Instead these ladies, part of Corpus Christi's Knotty Knitters Knit Guild , often enhance their skills for others.
They knit for the project helmet liner, knitting helmet liners for men and women of the armed services stationed in cold climates.
The group also knits for the Angel Heart Blanket Project. The soft blankets are for babies who've passed away at Driscoll Children's Hospital. There's an emotional connection.
Maggie Pickering started getting teary eyed, her voice breaking as she told us how important it is for others to knit for such a valuable project.
Another member of the knit club, Kay Kovaric says it's also an important mission.
"You picture these young babies who have no life," said Kay. "It's so important they are presented in such a way that it'll be pleasant for mom and dad."
Every third Tuesday, of the month these ladies meet. There's a Saturday knit guild meeting as well.
Over coffee, they'll do various charity projects, or learn like on this day how to construct a tubular cast on. They hope to make a difference in their own work but also in the lives of others.
