Around noon time Wednesday, some concerned shoppers noticed the Boston Terrier locked in a car parked outside of La Palmera which is the new name for Padre Staples Mall. Cynthia Moreland said she waited 15 minutes before calling officers because she wanted to wait to see if the owners would come out. When police arrived they found the dog with no water, and the windows rolled up. The decision was made to break the passenger side window.

"He couldn't catch his breath. He was stumbling inside the car. He fell over the parking brake and landed in the floor board," said Moreland as she described the way the overheated dog was acting. She told 3 news the owners came out and were very upset the window was busted.

Meredith Berry another shopper who called 911 described the kind of person who would leave a dog locked in a hot car as selfish.

"We probably saved it's life. If they would have been much longer," she said.

The owners of the dog, are a couple from San Antonio who didn't want to speak us. The woman told us the dog wasn't in the car any longer than 30 minutes. Those who called 911 say it appeared the dog had been left there for a while.

Their dogs name is Bobby and he's expected to make a full recovery. The city's animal care services will keep the dog for observation. The couple won't be able to get their dog back for at least 10 days, that's when an administrative hearing is scheduled to discuss that option.

These people clearly are not the sharpest tools in the shed, Didn't care at all about the dog, but sure threw a fit over a window.

First of all this is a Boston Terrier. Second of all I already saw another news story about this and it is clear the windows are not rolled up. http://www.kristv.com/

There's NO WAY that's a French Bulldog. Get your facts straight before reporting. It's a Boston Terrier !!!

I agree that it was probably very hot inside the car, and bobby probably shouldnt have been left in there that long, but who is anyone to say that these two people should NEVER own an animal again! One manager of an animal control shelter wrote, "this type of incident happens often to people who truly love their dogs, but just do not think things through." Everyone makes mistakes... And if you clearly watch the video, you can see the windows were in fact NOT rolled up all the way.

Compare the actions of our Corpus police to the recent news story about a San Marcos, TX policeman that detained a couple for speeding while rushing their choking poodle to the vet. That poor dog died while the officer told the owner to "relax, it's just a dog, you can get another one". Thank you CCPD for your response!

No longer than 30 minutes? Well why don't we just put that couple in that car with the windows up for 30 minutes and see if its such a big deal. Hats off to concerned citizens and animal control.

Those people should be charged with animal endangerment. How could they be mad at police for doing thier job. They should have to pay for the officers time. I wonder what they would have done if the poor thing had died. Left it out on the parking lot and drive back to SA? If your reading this, your sick and sad, caring more about a stupid window than the well being of your pet. You should be banned from ever owning one again.

Next time leave the dog at home or look for one of the many dog friendly places here in town that could take him while you shop. It will probably cost you less.

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
