4 people are recovering after their boat capsized in the Packery Channel.  Emergency crews and the US Coast Guard responded to the scene.  Bystanders helped pull the four men to the rocks.  The men were taken to the hospital to get checked out for gashes, and possible broken bones.  The boat was overcome by seas of 5 to 7 feet.

I would like to thank all the people that helped us while we were in the water. Thank you for your encouragement while we were in the water and for your concern with our injuries. All four of us are stell nursing our scrapes, cuts, aches and pains. Otherwise, we are all very thankful to be alive. God was on our side and he had a lot of very good people helping him. Bless you all.

I share my experience with all boaters that use the channel to enter the Gulf. The water was very calm. The Gulf waters were also calm. As we entered the mouth of the channel the waves got higher. Before we realized it we were in the middle of large waves. The boat was rising and droping a about a 45 degree angle. Waves washed over the boat. We decided to turn around. A wave hit us broadside and turned us over. I urge extreme caution when going into this area. This is not a place for children.

In 1997 I wrote an article for Corpus Christi Lawyer Magazine predicting that Packery Channel would be very dangerous and boats would be wrecked due to dangerous surf in the entrance. You can find the article here: http://packery.com/rwatson/packery/cclawyer.htm
