Police say they've never seen anything quite like it. An early morning accident destroying at least 9 vehicles and sending a nearby utility pole careening into a nearby house.
One woman was killed in this accident and the driver now faces intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault charges. It happened a little after 2 this morning. Police say 28 year old John Trevino was speeding down the SPID access road pass Weber when he lost control in the excess of 90 miles per hour. The SUV hit a curb and flew into a parking lot belonging to Rocky Auto Sales. It wound up hitting at least 7 cars, but the destruction didn't stop there.
"It apparently went airborne," said Corpus Christi Police Lieutenant Lee Weber talking about the SUV driven by Trevino. "It ended up taking out a telephone poll, and wound up landing on another parked vehicle in an adjacent yard."
That telephone poll was split in two and went flying into a nearby home. Fortunately, no one was there at the time. The crash ended up killing 30 year old Valerie Martinez of Corpus Christi. Another victim, 30 year old Paul Prado, a paraplegic, was seriously injured. As for the driver, Trevino, he was ejected but survived.
The two victims were trapped in the vehicle for some time as paramedics waited on the power company to cut the live wires draped over the accident scene. Police say it was apparent the backseat passenger was dead, but the front seat passenger was sitting there yelling, 'Where is my money?' It turns out there was a lot of money in that SUV.
Police seized some $4,600 dollars in cash scattered throughout the the vehicle. It's not illegal to have that cash, but police suspect it might be drug money and plan to investigate where it came from. Officers say if it turns out to be legitimate they'll return it.

I have had the privilege of spending quite a bit of time with Valarie's children since her passing. They are doing as well as can be expected given the circumstances. There is an unmistakable saddness in their eyes that I'm afraid will always be there. Want to help? Please contact me at keriejo@gmail.com ~ I am organizing a fund for the children to help with basic their basic needs. Monetary donations or gently used clothes are appreciated. Let's honor Valaries memory through her children
