The Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization and Tex-Dot have unveiled a concept transportation system, that would ensure freight continues to move in a constant manner and inexpensively. It's called the "Universal Freight Shuttle" and if approved, would be built on an elevated railsystem and run on electricity. It's designed to run along existing highways and not be intrusive to the local landowners especially farmers. It would connect ports from Mexico to Corpus Christi, Ingleside and other points north. With the Panama Canal Preparing to open its third Lock in 2012, more freight traffic is being expected. Building such a railway freight system near that date help create jobs in the area. Such a railway system would also ensure that freight commerce comes to the coastal bend and not ports in the east coast. Much debate on the issue is still expected, such as how much it will cost but that will be covered thru private industry. The biggest benefit in our area would be the number of construction jobs to build the rail as well as the development of warehousing and distribution centers that wil bring new personnel into Corpus Christi.

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
