April 15, 2009

It's not exactly anyone's favorite day of the year, April 15th, Tax Day. Time to pay "uncle sam" his due.

And, for thousands of Americans, and hundreds right here in Corpus Christi, it's a day of protest, a day to hold a tea party. The tea party is meant to echo the historic Boston Tea Party protest of 1774.

Micheal Gibson is live tonight from the bayfront, with a local perspective.

Oh, and Sharon, you're absolutely disillusioned about this tax cut. It's not even close to the biggest tax cut in history. That's laughable! And Bush cut EVERYONE'S taxes. The fact that you think he increased taxes on the middle class shows that you're a pawn in the hands of the left-wing media who have said for years that Bush imposed "tax cuts for the rich." Yes, he decreased taxes for the rich AND the poor. Everyone benefited instead of just some. What we see now is government THEFT.

Sharon, just because I have yet to see an increase in my taxes doesn't mean it's right to increase a tax on someone else. That's like saying to people protesting slavery, "I find it interesting that so many people would protest slavery of black folks. The only people enslaved are black and you're as free as you've ever been." Just because it doesn't affect you (yet) doesn't mean it isn't WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. How narrow-minded and selfish of you. We should stand up for our countrymen!

Tsk tsk Sharon. Had you been there you would have heard that the people there were upset at the out of control spending of the Bush Administration too. It isn't a Democrat versus Republican thing but a protest about out of control government spending which both parties are guilty. You have the typical vappid knee jerk response I've come to expect from the Hate America First crowd. Apparently you would prefer Congress to never read its legislation and guess how much it spends. THINK!

It was an awesome day.We traveled over from Alice to attend the event. I didn't expect such a turnout, and I was afraid that people would start fighting us for our beliefs. I guess the government really doesn't care what we think, as long as we keep paying our taxes. Was this just to vent off steam? I don't think so. The unprotected class doesn't feel safe anymore. We have to stand up for ourselves and our children's future. If we don't, then there won't be a future for them that's worth living.

I have to commend Eric von Wade and John Gifford at 1440KEYS for the work the did orchestrating the Corpus Christi Tax Tea Party by the Bay. The event was well organized and executed, with no public disruption of normal activities, and no trash left behind. This was amazing considering there were no ad dollars, and there was heavy reliance on social networking sites to carry the message.

This was not a tax cut. The tax rate was raised on those who are most prosperous. In addition, and most insipidously, fees and other taxes have just been increased. Obama stated during the campaign that he wants to increase tax on coal production, he favors a $4.00/gal gas floor, with an increase in taxes if the price drops below that. Utility and excise taxes have just been increased and well as the "carbon use" tax that will just go to the general fund. This is a huge tax increase.

I find it interesting that so many people would protest a tax cut for the middle class. The only increase in taxes is imposed upon those making over a quarter of a million a year. If you income is less, you just recieved the biggest tax cut in American History. Why were these people so silent when the Bush Administration was increasing taxes on the middle class?
