He's probably breathing a sigh of relief. Former law firm operator Mauricio Celis narrowly missed spending time in jail.

That's what D-A Carlos Valdez recommended.

But, 105Th District Court Judge Manuel Banales opted to forgo the recommended jail time and more than a million dollars in restitution.

Instead the judge lessened terms by not imposing the jail term, taking him off house arrest and Cells no longer having to wear an ankle monitor.

Watch Rudy  Trevino's report for more information.

Im not over the fact that so much manpower & taxpapers like me are tired of this corrupt system at the courthouse. Shame on the elected officials & shame on Judge Banales now i wouldn't even let him marry me. I want an investigation into the finances of Judge Banales he needs to be removed from the bench & send him back to picking cotton. Or maybe he should just be clicked into a gang because works for criminals & gets $$$lots of it.

I was floored to see he got off with probation. If it was anyone else they would be sent away for a long time. Embarassing and shameful Banales and Canales.

Maurico Celia may be sitting pretty in jail for money laundering. going with him should be Judge Banales & his lawyer Tony Canales. The 3 devil money makers as far as i can see. Hows the new car Judge Banales & your newly remodled office looking good dude. Your days as a Judge are numbered Im sure the residents would be voting you to office come election time. You cost us tax payers to much already. I bet you would have Celis pay you off instead of the $1million in restitution. $$$TALKS.

Did Mr. Celis buy off the judge too!!! he needs to go to jail and spend alot of time thinking about all the people he fooled. Mauricio Celis and his Attorney Mr. Canales are a big disgrace to our race, and now that Judge Banales let him get away with his(Mr. Celis)behavior he too is a disgrace!!! Now we know why our race cannot get ahead it is lying cheats like this that hold us back!!

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
