Local smokers are expressing their frustration and concern over the City Council's decision to impose a ban on smoking in bars and restaurants. Of three longtime smokers K-Triple-I spoke with , all agreed that the council should've allowed the individual businesses to make up their own minds as to whether they wished to remain a smoking establishment. All agree that they feel like their rights have been taken from away. However they will go along with the restriction for now. One individual told 3-News that he will remember how the Councilmembers voted this year, so when the time comes, they too will vote against that particular councilmember. It is a general concensus that most bars will suffer from the ban however a couple of business owners report their business has increased some filling up the inside and the outside patios. The one main question we asked these smokers is....will they curtail their smoking due to the ban. We recieved an overwhelming NO as an answer.

Smoking has been around longer than most of us. And I never went to a club and heard any complaints about the smoke. Every one there, were there to drink and have fun. I believe it is a ridiculous law, and the freedom of citizens is in jeopardy, when the GOV tells you how to run YOUR Business. It is not about non-smokers or smokers. It is about our FREEDOM.

The fact smokers are to often inconsiderate is reflected by their comments here. If your wandering smoke stayed in your lungs us non smokers would have no issues with you. Our non smoking doesn't get in your eyes, food, drink, clothes etc. If it did you would have an argument against non smokers. Your not being told you can't smoke, just not where it effects people that don't. And the article says that a couple of bars claim an increase in biz so it is based on fact.

When I go to a bar, the majority of people in there are all smokers. So why don't you nonsmokers go outside to avoid the smoke. Protect your lungs. If not suck it up......

Here's the bottom line, non-smokers like to go out and have a good time, too. Smoking is a personal choice and if you want to do it, then you can take it outside and damage your own lungs. Non-smokers did not choose to breathe in your second-hand smoke, so get over it, get up and go outside. You can puff away and damage your own lungs all you want!

I also don't believe anyones business has increased due to this idiotic ban. I believe CC doesn't want small business's to survive. Look how long it takes to get any new business started. For example the new Ace Hardware on the Isl. Also, if you don't smoke, stay at home. I'm really sick of you nonsmokers and your stupid comments. gth

as a smoker i feel its up to the business managment and well the business. At resturants yes i do believe in the ban but not in clubs and bars and this sort. Its just taking away more rights, how is a bunch of people who probably dont go to these places anyway decide if a smoking ban should be in place.

Earlier tonight I was driving home and a car almost sideswiped me. I kept my distance behind him and I noticed he was swerving all over the road..of course no cop in site when u need them. I believe it is more dangerous to serve alcohol and then u got idiots running all over these streets.Peolple can walk away from smokers but u cannot walk away from drunk driving. Ban alcohol.

In response to Robin. When you go into a bar or club and the majority of the customers are smoking and it offends you then leave. It should be the choice of the bar owner if he wants a smoke free establishment not the GOV. Way too many GOV either state or Fed.

That's GREAT! It's about time that Corpus Christi caught up with the times! Why should people have to put up with disgusting second-hand smoke when we know the health concerns associated with it (plus, it stinks!)? If smokers want to damage their health, let them do so outside. Who wants to be eating/drinking around smoke anyhow? Corpus Christi has been vastly behind the times on this issue, so I'm glad to see they're finally grabbing a clue! Way to go, CC!!!
