Despite warnings all week from the fire department, some still chose to illegally set-off fireworks on the 4th of July. It caused several fires to erupt around 10 o'clock Saturday night, and they continued to burn throughout much of Sunday morning.

After already sparking several large grass fires on unmanned islands in the Laguna Madre, our cameras caught the perpetrator, in the distance, continuing to set off fireworks.

Well, at least the mosquitos and cockroches were killed and the grass will be greener if it ever rains.

The offense should be treated the same as arson. Could have been someone's house, or worse, someone's life, that was lost. The courts need to make an example out of these people before someone causes major problems.

Somehow, even if they catch the perp, i have little to no faith the city will fine/punish them hard enough that they wont just do it again next year after telling the story to all their family members as if it's a golden memory.

I am not sure that the city can ban firework stands unless it is a city law/ordinance. There are so many people that do not have good reasoning skills. Their thinking is "It won't happen to me". I have been to someone's residence where fireworks were being set off within the city. There was an off-duty police officer in attendance.

Why in the heck do they allow the firework stands to even open up during the county's most severe drought? This just baffles me...we all know there are jerks out there like this guy with no reguard for the burn ban law.....REALLY why do we give these people the opportunity to show off their stupidity?? Can't the city say NO to firwork stands and shops???

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
