The woman hit on her bike along Ocean Drive continues to recover in a San Antonio hospital.
A family member for Barb Savell says doctors are still finding broken bones they didn't know she had. Tuesday night, a local radio personality, who survived a similar accident, spoke out.
Family members say Savell is alert. Doctors are hoping to get her off a ventilator. She's also scheduled for hip surgery on Thursday, one of four surgeries she'll be facing.
Savell a mother of five, and a cyclist was hit along Ocean drive early Saturday morning. The truck that hit her didn't stop.
Savell was taken to Brook Army Medical Center, where she continues to recover from numerous injuries.
Jesse De Leon, morning show co-host on Oldies 93.9 knows what Barb is going through. He was also struck by a car while on a morning bike ride in 2006 and survived. The accident left him confined to a wheel chair in the months that followed and with injuries to his face and head.
De Leon believes raising awareness through legislation is a step in the right direction. However, you might recall Governor Perry recently vetoed legislation that would have required cars to move over at least 3 feet as they passed cyclists.
A $500 reward has been put up for information and the arrest of the person who hit her. The reward is coming out of Tallahassee Florida, from a man who runs two bike safety websites. He saw the story and wanted to help.
