The health care reform battle heats up in Corpus Christi. For months, opponents and supporters have been fighting in Congress. For the first time, both sides go head to head here in the Coastal Bend.

What started out as a rally to support health care reform turned nasty. Then opponents and supporters started yelling at each other and police were called in.

Outside of Congressman Solomon Ortiz's office, several residents rallied for and against health care reform.

Supporters are behind the single-pay health care system and want to see President Obama get the legislation passed. Meanwhile opponents call it socialism and believe it's bad for america.

"We believe in health care and health care reform," said Ed Grove, President of Health Care Now from the Coastal Bend coalition. "We basically side with Obama and his plans for a new health care program."

"We want to improve health care, but not by having government run healthcare," said Phil Shaw from Take Back America, an opponent of health care reform. "Government health care doesn't work."

At one point, opponents and supporters started chanting at each other. Police officers were called in to separate both groups and make sure there was no violence.

Congressman Ortiz wasn't available to comment on the protest outside his office. He's planning to hold a telephone town hall meeting next month.

"The last time we had a "ruler" who would not listen to the voices of the people he governed, but took their taxes for his own benefit and power - We called him King George III and TYRANT and his policy was taxation without representation." What we have in office now is much worse! Obama says he is "not swayed by polls" as in, forget what the American people want, I will do what I and my Socialist Czars wish.

congressman Ortiz has no respect for the people he is supposed to serve. The last time we had a "ruler" who would not listen to the voices of the people he governed, but took their taxes for his own benefit and power - We called him King George III and TYRANT and his policy was taxation without representation. We have had one revolution over that, how about we have a civil discussion this time, not a civil war!

This is irresponsible reporting at its worst. Instead of helping to solve a problem you have gone for the ratings in place of truth. You should lose your license and be banned from the air.

A fabricated article. Was anyone from your station even there? Oh yes, I guess they had to be, since the picture at the top of this page shows only the people who favor the bill.

I asked for a retraction of this video. My comment was on here for about 20 minutes before it was removed. I also emailed Del A Rosa with the same comments, and asked for a retraction. I recieved a one word reply back. That reply said Thanks! In other words, don't bother to email, don't bother writing. I doubt that this will get posted at all, due to the removal of my last post asking for a retraction.

KIII TV3 and its affiliated companies are not responsible is indeed an understatment! There should be a retraction of this totally false report about the protest on Sat. It did NOT get nasty, the police were asked by the bank to have the people move further away from the front door and that was done. What a horrible example you set reporting by reporting this in a negative way. RETRACTION!

KIII needs to upgrade its reporting - this is outright fabrication! The protest was never 'nasty' and police never intervened except to ask folks not to block the entrance to the bank as it was open for business. The interaction between the opposing sides was at times loud but never unruly. Unbelievably biased reporting on the part of KIII. Maybe the next protest should be in front of your studios. FYI, of the nearly 500 people in attendance, only about 35 were for the public option.

Single-pay health care system is not what Obama is proposing or what's in any of the bills. HR 3200 will make insurance companies compete against each other and the public option in a fair market exchange instead of the government protected monopoly racket they have now. The reporter needs to do some homework.

Ortiz did not show because like his father he would have embarrassed himself with his lack of knowledge.

This is what passes for news reporting at KIII? "What started out as a rally to support health care reform turned nasty. OK, first, the statement is completely false and second it sounds like it was written by a (not very bright) fifth grader. De La Rosa - you are an embarrassment to your employer and the journalistic profession. Trust me, this is NOT the last you'll hear of this! Have a nice day.

This is inaccurate reporting. More than 400 people attended with the crowd more than 4-1 against government run healthcare but 100% FOR healthcare reform. There was no violence or threat and many productive conversations were started.

The proposed reform would NOT be a government takeover. Instead it would be a regulation of the healthcare system - like the government regulation of the airlines, utilities and most recently, of credit card companies. We need this kind of regulation. The "against" crowd doesn't understand the proposal.

Why didn't Ortiz hold a town hall meeting this month and in person. Ortiz no longer supports the people and doesn't care about what the people wants. He should face the people face to face and discuss this matter. If this health care bill is passed, it is the end of the USA as we know it of being a free nation.
