He was born with down syndrome, but that has not stopped Daniel Forsythe from dreaming big, or accomplishing big dreams.

His artwork was chosen to be displayed in the Smithsonian, and Daniel couldn't be more pleased. When you get Daniel to talk about his art,  a big smile takes over his face. He's being doing art since he was 3 three years old.

Daniel is one of 12 finalists in a national arts competition called "Accelerate" for emerging artists with disabilities. He's heading to the nation's capitol next week to be recognized.And. He is to be awarded two thousand dollars. He plans on using the money for college,  that's right College is on the horizon.

Mom and dad who both who have art backgrounds are thrilled over their son's accomplishments.

If you want to see some of Daniel's work up close you can see some of his pieces at 517 Café on Everhart. And they're ready to sell.

Dad says he shed a tear when he heard his son's art was to hang in the Smithsonian. "It really hit home when they sent out the press release yesterday."

Corpus Christi City Budget

Corpus Christi city revenues aren't keeping up with the budget. What's the city to do? Cut expenses, raise taxes?

  • Small cuts in services and small tax rate hikes.
  • Drastic cuts in city services, no tax increases.
  • Reduce city employee salaries and benefits
  • Reduce all city services including pay cuts, and raise taxes
