In a few weeks clean up will being at Hazel Bazemore Park in Calallen.

Clean up had begun last spring but it was stopped after thousands of tires were discovered at the park, along with metal debris and car parts. This posed an environmental concern.

Now state environmental officials have given the county the green light to go ahead and restart the clean up process.

Nueces County Commissioner, Mike Pusely told Kiii News, "Obviously, we want to make the park safe and clean up the things that would be a threat to any public health issue and that's the goal here. As I said the first phase will be the brush then we'll start on the tire clean up next."

But before all this begins an engineer will be sent to the area to assess the possibility of Indian artifacts may lay in the park ravine where most the hazardous material is found.

If there are any archaeological finds, then the county will preserve the artifacts according to Pusley.
