Dan Caballero ran into legal problems when he recently applied for a liquor license for a new restaurant.

But while the media reports have been potentially damaging to Caballero, the District Attorney says the facts so far show this to be nothing more than a simple mistake.

The 52 year old Caballero has become a fixture on local television commercials. A public figure who's businesses have thrived in recent years, expanding from a garden nursery to home builder to most recently a successful restaurant owner.

Clearly an easy target for anyone looking to get even. And that, says his attorney is exactly what happened.

Watch Rudy Trevino's report for more information.

Well I worked for Baja Coast for awhile, Dan was never rude to me nor hit me with any gardening tools nor did he pee on me. His wife is a sweet sweet person. The truth will come out good or bad. I work at another local place and I can tell you Baja Coast is very clean and food is good, where I work now the cooks smoke while cooking. So do not judge a book by its cover and lets see how this turns out!

Give me a break-- How does one have a name change and just fill that name in on ALL legal documents for how many years?? How funny is this?? While no one should be a target just because he has money and has made someone angry, he should also be just as liable as the rest of us for criminal behavior.

Finally someone reports this story responsibly. Perhaps the other channels are just mad because he won't give them an interview. They should be sued for slander. The only thing that they have reported that is true is that he used another name. He isn't hiding from anything b/c he doesn't have anything to hide from. In order to have a "criminal history" you must be convicted of a crime and David Boen was never convicted of anything. I think KIII should be commended for sticking to the truth

Suprised KIII didn't run the story first when they clearly had the information before anyone else. GM Drilling probably told them last minute to not run it because "Caballero" is a major advertiser and does the KIII studio gardening. KIII-TV, where money comes before giving the news to the public. It's funny how KIII is defending "Dan" but not Bonilla..This post will probably be deleted btw cause they do that when they don't like negative comments in regards to them...Ask Alan Harwell.

Amazes me the number of people ready to have a public lynching. If these good citizens knew of wrong doings by this man - they are guilty of not speaking out before now. Perhaps you might be able to ruin him and have some more jobs lost for the City. Look in the mirror all of you potential vigilantes.

What an EVIL man! He pays millions in taxes to be given to those who won't work and pays hundreds of people who want to work. So he is not the easiest guy to work for, it is not a easy job being the boss, I know. Your help will steal you blind and justify it by saying you owed it to them. That is why they call a nice guy in business bankrupt and nobody wins. So what he changed his name, probably trying to fit in,good name for a white boy in south Texas. He has NEVER been convicted So lets leave

"That tends to indicate to me that he's not been wanting to defraud anybody...".It been 20 years! Listen Carlos Valdez, the crime is done at the time it is committed, when Dave applied for an TABC license under an assumed name, it was then that the crime was committed. That's illegal to do. Changing his name now does NOT fix what crime he's committed in the past!
