Legal action is beginning to take shape all around the country in the aftermath of Toyota admitting to a series of major mechanical defects in their cars.  A third local family is suing the automaker, a woman saying a stuck accelerator led to a serious wreck on SPID last year, and her to have miscarriage.  Sandra Luera says she was driving down SPID when she noticed the cars in front of her putting on the breaks.  She says she tried to slow down, but was helpless as her car kept going.

Luera says, "I was scared.  I tried with one foot and nothing was happening, so I pushed it with both of my feet still nothing.  I was just like its a nightmare.  Ill put it that way, its a nightmare."  Her car was a total loss.  She says she suffered a broken foot and a miscarriage.  We sat down with Luera and her attorney, Jeff Wigington.

Luera says she was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla at the time of the accident, a vehicle that is not currently on the recall list.  However, Wigington believes it shows the problem is much larger than disclosed.

I don't know whats worse, opportunistic people or the Lawyers. I bought a 2007 Toyota Camary in 2006 and it's still going and I have never had a problem with it.

The lawsuit on a automaker for a vehicle not on the problems list. This is easy to believe.. Corpus was rated the #1 Frivolous Lawsuit per capita in a test done several years ago. The study was done by a consortium of insurance companies. I was proof. Got sued for a pencil eraser sized dent on someone else's car. I wasn't even going fast enough in a parking lot to register on the speedometer and yet they said they couldn't work for two years... SOME people in Corpus just want an easy check. Maybe I should sue, because now I am stressed out that I had a dream about almost considering buying a Toyota. haha.. worthless

Wonder if she was on the cellphone, and attention span was disengaged. We have driven Toyotas for years, still do, and tired of lawsuits against a good company.

OMG!!! This is rediculous! Car not even on the recall list and she is suing? These attorney's should not even take cases like this. If she does win then I as well will try to sue because I have been stressed about driving my Toyota 09 Venza!!! Give me a break. BE honost with yourselves.

Glad to know that at least some people are catching on to all the low lifes that are now crawling out of the woodwork making fools out of themselves & wasting taxpayers dollars with these frivolous law suits. I work at a Toyota dealership. Wish I could post all the jazz some people are purporting. So ridiculous! Everybody wants to "ride that horse". These kinds of people have no shame. Sickening! X(

the 06 corolla's gas pedal is mechanical, not electric, or "drive-by-wire", as is the braking system. if she manages to win, does this mean i can sue because i drive a scion and a heb basket crashed into it while i was shopping? People will sue for anything, and there is always a lawyer out there to oblige

Corpus Christi City Budget

Corpus Christi city revenues aren't keeping up with the budget. What's the city to do? Cut expenses, raise taxes?

  • Small cuts in services and small tax rate hikes.
  • Drastic cuts in city services, no tax increases.
  • Reduce city employee salaries and benefits
  • Reduce all city services including pay cuts, and raise taxes
