PADRE ISLAND - -

With spring break in full swing, police are unveiling several new tools this year to help patrol efforts on the beach. Today CCPD added three surveillance cameras and a scissor lift to keep an eye on Highway 361 and beach hot spots. Starting today, the scissor lift located at Marker 203 on JP Luby Surf Park will rise above the crowd to keep an eye on them. It goes 30 feet in the air and gives the officer on board an unparalleled aerial view of the beach. From the lift you can see several miles in each direction. There's no question the bird's eye view is the best on the beach and it provides officers a new way to spot trouble. Lt. Russell Sherman with the CCPD said, "Anytime you're up high, you can see more of the big picture, what's going on. Not only with traffic but as far as if we have a problem they'll be able to spot it a lot quicker and tell the officers where to respond to."  The three security cameras are posted at Highway 361 and Zahn Road, Highway 361 and Newport Road and at Newport Road and the beach.

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
