If you happen to be by the Water Gardens on Tuesday evening -- you will be treated to a fascinating history lesson.  The trip back in time is made possible thanks to an organization called The Society of Creative Anachronism.  They spent time with us Tuesday morning showing how they re-create European history from 650 to 1650.   From sword fighting to authentic artistry.  The group meets every Tuesday and welcomes folks to stop by and check them out.  http://www.seawinds.org/

The SCA is not for everyone, granted. But for gmoney and playboy to mock something they know nothing about is immature at best. Why don't you guys try it before you pass judgement? Put up or shut up?

As an artisan in the SCA some 20 years in Houston, the SCA researches and recreates the arts and crafts of the historical time from 600-1600, learning and educating as well as using what has been created and keeping alive some lost skills; from fiber arts, to calligraphy and illumination, to pottery and blacksmithing, woodworking and metalsmithing, to the bardic arts of song and poetry - learn together the arts of the past.

Lovable friendly History nerds! I have been in the SCA 15 years.. no dragons no spells no fantasy ... All History! Come research with us! Put on steel armor and get hit by solid core rattan! Weave your own clothes! Make your own mead! Make your own pottery and glassware. Sheer a sheep and spin your own wool. Nerds .. Yes but historicly well researched nerds!

gmoney- Some of these "neeeeerrrdssss" as you eloquently call us are doctors, lawyers, and businesspeople. Some of us are soldiers, some of us teachers, all of us bring something unique to the SCA. We teach, we entertain, we learn and we have a hell of a time doing it. Some of us make things, some of us fight, but we all saw something we enjoyed here. So, all those who might be tempted to agree with the oh-so-pithy comment left by gmoney, come on out and give us a look. You might find we've got a lot more in common than you think.

I have been a part of the SCA, and know many of these fine people. They are like extended family. Speaking of family, its a great opportunity to spend some family time together, while teaching your children about history. They are a fine group of people from all over the world. You guys look great.

And proud of it, gmoney. Let's see you gear up in 30 to 50 pounds of equipment and last even five minutes. THEN go make the mail, armor, beer, tunic, etc.

Corpus Christi City Budget

Corpus Christi city revenues aren't keeping up with the budget. What's the city to do? Cut expenses, raise taxes?

  • Small cuts in services and small tax rate hikes.
  • Drastic cuts in city services, no tax increases.
  • Reduce city employee salaries and benefits
  • Reduce all city services including pay cuts, and raise taxes
