There's some promising news from the Nueces County Sheriff's Office Monday.

Sheriff Jim Kaelin tells us U.S. Marshals from Houston recently visited the jail to talk about the future return of federal inmates to the county lockup.

The sheriff says now, it's really all about negotiating a new contract, and that it'll be up to the commissioners and Judge Loyd Neal to set a price for housing federal inmates.

"Anything we can do in this facility to help off set some of the cost of running the jail, is certainly welcome by me, and it should be welcome by taxpayers," says Kaelin.

The Feds used to pay about $45.00 a day to house one federal prisoner. Its expected there might be a hike in that cost.
