CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Southbound traffic on Highway 181 had to detour as crews worked to clear a major accident that happened near the Harbor Bridge Thursday morning.

Police said an 18-wheeler carrying debris rolled over on the southbound side of Highway 181 just before the Harbor Bridge.

According to Flatiron-Dragados, the company handling the new Harbor Bridge Project, the accident caused emergency crews to shut down all three southbound lanes and the left northbound lane of Highway 181 near the Burleson Street exit.

As for the driver of the vehicle, he is expected to be okay. There is no word on what caused him to lose control of the vehicle and rollover.

Lanes remained closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene. At around 2 p.m., the southbound lanes of Highway 181 were reopened.
