CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A South Texas teenager and his family are celebrating Tuesday night after returning home with a major accomplishment following a power-lifting competition in Las Vegas.

17-year-old Joshua Olivarez from Falfurrias High School competed over the weekend in the World Bench-Press and Deadlift Championships.  He placed first in the deadlift and second for bench press.

Olivarez qualified for Worlds after breaking a World Record during a power-lifting competition in McAllen. Olivarez developed his love of lifting when he was just seven-years-old, looking up to icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger and even the Hulk.

Transforming over the last ten years, Olivarez is now a world-class competitor through self-motivation and support from his family.
