It was quite an honor for one Beeville resident who has been civic minded for most of her life. And even now, is only thirteen years old. 8th grader Christina Perez recently wrote a letter to Mrs. Obama explaining how she inspires the young teen.
Well, the first lady was so moved she wrote back.
"Dear Christina, I am pleased to join your family and friends in offering my congratulations, and I hope you take pride in all you have accomplished."
The first lady was commenting on Christina's recent participation in The Great American Bake Sale. It's a project that helps with childhood hunger a program Christina has taken part in for the last three years in a row.
But that's not all, she also found time to donate to Toys for Tots and participated various food drives. She even donated babysitting money to charity.
Christina says giving back has given her so much in return.
"It's a lot of work, but it pays off knowing that I helped my community. Everyone knows me for my community service," said Christina Perez, 8th grader at Moreno Middle School.
In addition Christina also received a picture of the first family. Christina already has her future mapped out. She plans to go to college, hopefully the University of Texas she says where she plans on studying law.
