CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Two Corpus Christi Independent School District schools were placed on modified lockdown as a precaution Tuesday after police were called to a burglary around 11 a.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Brentwood Drive.

Police said the man stole a BB gun from a home and left on a green bike.

Both Ray High School and Sam Houston Elementary School were placed on precautionary lockdown as officers searched for the suspect.

"Usually, when we get a call of any kind of weapon in the area, they will call the district and have those schools locked down for that reason," said Officer C. Gonzalez of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "In this case it was a BB gun. They didn't know if it was a rifle or not."

Sam Houston Elementary School was on lockdown for about an hour and the children stayed indoors for the afternoon, while Ray High School was on modified lockdown during lunch.

Police said the suspect was a man in his 20s.
