CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The Corpus Christi Police Department unveiled Monday afternoon their new Skywatch system, which will allow officers to view cameras from above remotely.
The new mobile surveillance tower is linked to the police command center.
Back in April Valero announced a $50,000 donation for the Skywatch system, but recently doubled their contribution to help the Corpus Christi Police Foundation purchase the system sooner. The department hopes to buy more towers in the future.
In a ceremony Monday, CCPD Chief Mike Markle and other officials unveiled the tower and showed that it can lift to about 30 feet above the ground. 3News got a sneak peak of the Skywatch camera.
