CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Before you hit the road, Corpus Christi Police Department is asking you to check out their social media.
As a part of their initiative 'Safe Roads for CC,' CCPD is letting people know where their traffic patrol officers are going to be; in hopes that drivers will slow down and pay attention.
"All we're asking people to do is follow the laws," says Captain Russell Sherman, with the Traffic Safety Division.
The newest addition to the social media push is asking residents to email them with suggestions as to where they should send officers.
"The ultimate end goal is to keep as many people safe as we can," Captain Sherman says.
CCPD is asking for areas that see high amounts of speeding or distracted drivers. Captain Sherman says he will personally respond to emails and concerns, hoping to get officers to the area as soon as possible.
"We're also, the focused enforcement of it is we're focusing on individual complaints maybe the smaller locations in neighborhoods where people are concerned about their children," he adds.
From there, officers are collecting data and observations, bringing it back to CCPD, where they determine how to make roads and intersections in Corpus Christi safer.
"We also review crash data as far as where our major accidents happen, where we can do the most good," Sherman says.
If you would like to report an area in Corpus Christi, Sherman asks that you provide as many details about days and times, as possible then email firstname.lastname@example.org.
