CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (KIII NEWS) - A personal collection of documents belonging to Dr. Héctor P. Garcia has returned to the Coastal Bend.
Over 600 boxes featuring photographs, letters, and artifacts belonging to the famous civil rights activist were delivered to Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Tuesday.
The documents were donated to the university where they remained for decades before they donated to the History Associates headquarters in Maryland in 2016.
Cecilia Garcia- Akers, daughter and founding member of the Dr. Héctor P. García Memorial Foundation hopes her father's legacy inspires the community to help others.
The return of the collection will be celebrated on February 19th. The event will begins at 4 p.m. on the second floor of the Mary and Jeff Bell Library and is free and open to the public.
