Celebration of Navy's 241st birthday held at U.S.S. Lexington

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII-NEWS) - It's the 241st Navy's birthday and servicemen celebrated the occasion onboard the U.S.S. Lexington.

Servicemen from both N.A.S. Kingsville and N.A.S. Corpus Christi attended the event. We caught them when they were doing a cake cutting ceremony.

Organizers say each year, a Navy-wide birthday celebration takes place to promote a greater appreciation of their Navy heritage, honoring long lasting traditions and remember the brave heroes both past and present.

Jasmin Shackelford, who is a petty first class officer, says, "my favorite thing see around here is the older sailors. It's awesome. I'm so honored to be here. I'm looking forward to a good time."
