Charity spreads Hope this Thanksgiving

Charity League has chosen Hope House as this year's recipient of money they have raised to help Hope House expand.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Hope House is a house built on hope, and it's a shelter that takes in pregnant women, moms, women who have fallen on hard times and gives them not only a shelter but a chance at a better life for them and their children.

"I didn't know where I was gonna go," said Hope House resident Sara Perrin.

Perrin was seven months pregnant, no home, no family, and was at her lowest.

"I didn't have any clothes for Xavier, any diapers no formula I pretty much didn't have anything," Perrin said.

Perrin had nothing to fall on, so she found Hope House that takes women in who are in similar shoes.

"They assisted me with everything," Perrin said.

"We make sure they get on track and are productive so when they get out on their own, they're productive and self-sufficient," said Client Services Director Debra Arsuga.

Arsuga has been with Hope House for many years and said the mission of Hope House goes beyond providing shelter; they teach moms how to succeed in life, for themselves and their children.

"They are required to job search be productive leave a certain time and not come in until certain time and have a curfew," Arsuga said.

In 2016, Hope House helped over 4,000 women in the Coastal Bend. Hope House shelter is currently full and there is a waiting list but no room for the woman.

"We came to visit we were just very impressed with the way they run the organization. I think what they do here is great for our community," said President of Charity League Lesleigh Landreth.

Charity League has chosen Hope House as this year's recipient of money they have raised to help Hope House expand.

"So through our fundraising efforts we will be helping Hope House purchase a larger office space so it will provide confidentiality to their clients," said Publicity Chair Holly Thomas. "Were looking to have a bigger place to have a playroom so mom can meet her goals."

The fundraising efforts of the Charity League will be announced during their annual fashion show which takes place in February.
