'Christmas Around the World' held at Hicks Elementary School

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Students at Gloria Hicks Elementary School welcomed unique visitors from the North Pole Thursday morning for their annual Christmas Around the World.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus were able to watch students decorate cookies. They also handed out a toy and a book to each student.

"I love mostly everything about Christmas," third-grader Jeremias Cruz said. "The decorating the tree, putting up the lights. Mrs. Hicks is really nice to do this for us."

In 2016, the Christmas event was postponed due to a water crisis. Gloria Hicks, the school's namesake, said although the delayed event was upsetting, seeing the excitement from the students Thursday morning was something she cherishes.

"The children are what Christmas is really about," Hicks said. "And for them to have this experience, it's very wonderful for them."

The event was made possible by donations from the community.
