CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - For most, stealing someone's Christmas decorations is unthinkable; but police said it happens more often than you might think.
In fact, a Robstown resident actually caught someone on video doing just that.
The resident said the video shows a man at the front door of her mother's house sometime around 2 a.m. over hte weekend. The man can be seen ringing the doorbell in the middle of the night, and then removing decorations and stacking them on the ground before taking them away.
Since the videos made their way to social media, several people have identified the man and it was reported to police. Robstown police said they know who the man is and are working to determine if he is responsible for any other thefts in the area.
Residents who enjoy getting into the spirit of the season said they are disappointed to hear about such a crime.
"It's heartbreaking because you figure people spend a lot of money to display their Christmas ornaments, and then you have some people that come and take them and you're like, you know, it's heartbreaking to hear that," said Pat Bocanegra, a resident who decorates every year for Christmas.
Bocanegra and her family have lived in their house for 38 years and began the life-sized nativity scene 19 years ago. It is a tradition that attracts several hundred every night, and she said they do take precautions in case someone trys to make off with a decoration.
"We have security, so we'll find out," Bocanegra said. "We'll know."
On the bright side, Robstown police said this is their worst problem so far this holiday season. They remind residents to label their holiday decorations and use surveillance cameras to deter thieves.
