City warns of the effects of fats, oils, grease in pipelines

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Thanksgiving is Nov. 23 and one thing to keep in mind while you meal prep is how pipes can get clogged.

The City of Corpus Christi urges individuals to avoid pouring fats, oils, and grease down their drains. If the items are poured down the drain, it can lead to a lot of money spent on repairs.

"It could even cause damage to your whole house, so if the line backs up outside your house toilets can overflow sinks can overflow, and you could damage your whole house. It's going to be costly for the homeowner, but not just for the homeowner it can be costly for us to unplug our lines," Wastewater Plant Manager Gerald Garcia said.

City workers recommend pouring the substances into containers like old coffee cans and then disposing of the containers in a trash bin.
