CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The U.S. Coast Guard announced Tuesday that law enforcement stopped a Mexican lancha boat crew who were illegally fishing in South Texas waters.
According to investigators, five Mexican fishermen were found with two sharks and 18 red snappers fish on Jan.25. The Mexican fisherman were detained by Border Patrol agents, while the boat and fish were seized by the Coast Guard.
"The success of the mission was only made possible by the continued collaborative efforts of state and federal agencies," said Commander Keith Pierre, chief of response for Corpus Christi Coast Guard. "We will continue our collaborative efforts to end illegal poaching in U.S. waters."
