Coastal Bend athlete mistaken for international crime

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A former Aransas Pass High School basketball player was mistaken Thursday for a college basketball player who's accused of shoplifting in China.

An Associated Press article falsely names the Aransas Pass local as part of the University of California-Los Angeles basketball team who were arrested for shoplifting from Louis Vuitton while in China for an exhibition game.

In the article that was shared around the country, the Associated Press named the three UCLA basketball players as Liangelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill.

Jalen Hill from Aransas Pass High School played basketball, but the Associated Press named Hill as one of the alleged criminals. The article's photo showed Jalen Hill from Aransas Pass and wrote that Hill played basketball at Aransas Pass High School in 2016 before playing at UCLA.

Kiii News brought the mistake to the Associated Press' attention, and they reviewed the error and sent 3News the following statement "AP members and customers were advised to remove and no longer use the image."

3News reached out to Jalen Hill from Aransas Pass, but he was unable to comment Friday night because he was on a trip to College Station.
