CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi is set to host the World Super Middleweight Championship at the American Bank Center on Feb. 3, 2018.

In fact, this city beat out San Antonio, Las Vegas and Los Angeles as a finalist to host the event.

Hall of Fame boxing promoter Bob Arum and Mexico's super middleweight champion boxer Gilberto Ramírez announced that the match would air on ESPN. Ramírez will defend his world title against Habib "Wild Hurricane" Ahmed.

"Boxing has an audience, and if there's a will to make it and show it as a global event, then they will be more interested," promoter Bob Arum said.

"I'm really glad. I'm happy to be here in Corpus Christi the first time, but this is my third defense, and I am expecting a really good fight because my opponent is undefeated too," Ramírez said.
