Corpus Christi man killed in head-on collision on FM 43

A 36-year-old man from Corpus Christi was killed in a head-on collision just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday on FM 43.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A 36-year-old man from Corpus Christi was killed in a head-on collision just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday on FM 43.

Department of Public Safety troopers said the driver of a Jeep Rubicon was traveling east on FM 43 when they veered into oncoming traffic, crashing into a Chevy Suburban that was traveling westbound at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 36-year-old Donald Martin of Corpus Christi.

The 51-year-old driver of the Suburban survived the accident and was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital with serious incapacitating injuries.

Authorities said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
